Ancestral Healing
I am standing at the threshold of an ending.
My 95-year-old father lies in the hospital, sustained now by tubes that breathe and nourish for him.
We know his passing is near.
The moment a father’s breath returns to the unseen, an entire lineage seems to exhale with him releasing stories, sorrows, pain, and sacred patterns that have waited generations to be healed.
There is a quiet sacredness in this time, a stillness that feels both heavy and luminous.
I have a younger brother and sister, and none of us have children.
This feels like more than the impending loss of a parent. It is the closing of a lineage. And with it, its karmic ties.
It is as if, on some level, we have chosen to end this particular ancestral karmic experience.
Interestingly, my husband and his brother also do not have children.
And so, with my father’s impending final breath, something ancient may complete itself.
Patterns carried through generations, spoken and unspoken, lived and inherited come to rest.
It feels as though an entire river of memory, struggle, resilience, and love is returning to the great ocean.
This is the unseen dimension of healing we rarely speak of: ancestral healing.
Soul Coaching® Transformative Tools
In Soul Coaching®, we understand that our lives are not isolated stories. We are threads in a vast tapestry, shaped by those who came before us. When a parent transitions, there is an opportunity not only for grief, but for profound release and healing.
A cycle can end. But endings, even sacred ones, carry shadow.
In 2014, while pursuing my Advanced Certification, I completed a pre-training questionnaire of 183 questions: "Questions for Life ~ An Advanced Soul Coaching® Tool for Coaching".
Denise Linn writes, “One of the fastest ways to know yourself is through questions. Asking probing questions, especially the uncomfortable and challenging ones, is one of the quickest ways to help you understand and accept yourself.”
At that time, I was able to interview both my parents extensively about their lives, their relationship, and even my grandparents and great-grandparents.
It was a fascinating exploration. I uncovered both treasures and nightmares, stories that had never been spoken, processed, or healed.
Even though I have done deep healing work, both alone and with my family, much remains unresolved, still resting in the shadow.
But it is never too early or too late to begin the healing process.
The Shadow and the Light of Ending Cycles
When a lineage closes, unexpected emotions can arise: emptiness, disorientation, even guilt can linger in the shadow. We are invited to continue asking the Noble Questions:
~ Who am I without this story?
~ What does it mean to carry no lineage forward?
~ Have I honored what was given?
Yet within this shadow lives immense healing potential.
To end a cycle is not to erase it... it is to transform it.
It is to become conscious where others could not. It is to bless what was, release what no longer serves, and reclaim the wisdom without repeating the wound.
This is where healing becomes a sacred act of choice.
And what I have come to understand is this:
Healing is not something I chase. It is something I allow.
But what Is Healing and Ancestral Healing?
As a young girl, I loved words… and still do. I would chase my father, asking him the meaning of new words I discovered. He would always say, “Go look in the dictionary. If I tell you, you will forget, but if you look it up, it will stay with you.”
To this day, I still do this whenever I write or come across a new English word, since I am originally from Portugal.
So, in honor of my father, and one thing I carry with me that he taught me, here are the meanings of healing and ancestral healing I found by going to Google:
Healing (noun): the natural process by which the body repairs itself
Healing (adjective): tending to cure or restore to health
Ancestral healing is the process of identifying, understanding, and releasing inherited emotional, physical, or behavioral trauma passed down through generations. It transforms patterns—such as addiction, poverty, or abuse—into wisdom and strength, fostering growth and well-being.
But how do we access it?
A Soul Coaching® Focus: Cherishing Self as a Portal to Ancestral Healing
One of the most powerful Soul Coaching® affirmations “I accept and love myself” becomes essential here.
To heal ancestral patterns, we must honor ourselves not as separate from our lineage, but as its evolution.
Here are a few gentle ways to move through your own cycles of healing:
~ Acknowledge the lineage within you. Reflect on what you have inherited, both gifts and wounds.
Naming them brings them into the light.
~ Release with intention. Speak aloud what you are ready to let go of, and offer it to water as a symbol
of transformation.
~ Reclaim your identity. Ask: Who am I beyond these patterns? Let the answers emerge without pressure.
~ Practice self-cherishing daily. Place your hand on your heart and affirm, “I accept and love myself as I am,
and as I am becoming.”
~ Choose one new way of being. Even a small shift (a boundary, a new thought, an act of self-kindness)
signals that change is possible and safe.
In this space between ending and becoming, there is grief but also grace.
There is loss but also liberation.
And perhaps, in allowing the cycle to complete, we do not end the lineage at all.
We transform it into something freer, lighter, and more conscious than it has ever been.

Embrace the Magic of Music
From my December article, “DELIGHT,” this fourth tip invites you to listen, receive the imagery, and gently guide your mind into a peaceful inner sanctuary.
Music delights my inner child.
As a special holiday gift to you, I’m sharing a song performed by my husband and me called “Light of the Angels”.
This song was originally written for the survivors (and those lost) of Hurricane Katrina, which is why I recite a French passage at the end.
Music quiets our busy minds, opening a space for creativity, imagination, and delightful expression.
It also brings us into silent agreement, harmony, and deep connection as a couple.
This magic isn’t limited to romantic relationships but it’s a powerful tool for any bond.
Simply put, it’s pure delight experienced through sound.
We invite you to listen by yourself as a Meditation or play it for your family or friends.
